CINDY PAULS is the Director of Shared Services at Borden Dairy Company, a $3 billion dairy manufacturer and distributor headquartered in Dallas, Texas. Cindy was hired to bring their Shared Services function to the next level by standardizing, automating and documenting procedures to reduce inefficiencies and add value in Customer Service, Order Replenishment, Accounts Payable and Receivables, Collections, Route Settlement, Payroll, and Master Data. In addition to accomplishing these initiatives, Cindy has effectively standardized procedures and improved communications across 13 plants, company-wide. Prior to this, Cindy was a Senior Director of Finance in the casino industry responsible for up to 11 functional departments, from Accounting and IT through Risk and Purchasing. During her nearly 15 years in the industry, Cindy was responsible for implementing best practices and rolling out analytical tools and financial models that were shared throughout three different national casino companies. Harrah’s Entertainment awarded Cindy the Chairman’s Award for Leadership due to her ability to provide a multi-million dollar impact year after year through innovative analysis. Cindy is also actively involved in the East Dallas Rotary Club as the President-Elect for the 2018-2019 session.

Staffing appropriately based on your employees’ skillset is essential in creating a positive environment for growth and development within your SSO. In this age of digital transformation, it is imperative that your FSSO employees are trained for success that will help them excel and take their careers to new heights.

THEORY (30 MINS)
The session leader will kick things off by defining the key areas you need to think through when developing career plans.
They will share their insights regarding the below topics:
• Benefits of career mapping
• Pitfalls of not having the right employees with the right skillsets
• Importance of ensuring financial tasks are being performed by employees with the right skill sets
• Pushback from stakeholders
• How the current digital transformation trend will work in the shared services employees’ favor

PRACTICAL (40 MINS)
Working in small groups, the session leader will task the audience members to develop a “Career Roadmap” that will enhance the skills of their SSO team. Upon completion of the project, the groups will come back together and present to the room, highlighting
the biggest challenges they encountered in developing the project and what strategies they implemented to overcome them.
