Why "Lean" Means More in an Enterprise-wide Context
Lean is deployed widely across the entire business at TD Ameritrade. It's not just about efficiency however, as Robin Shahani, CPO explains, but about driving improvements across the entire business and revenue side. "It's been amazingly powerful as a tool. I wish more companies would look at opportunities like this", he says.
"This goes way beyond organizational transformation and Shared Services," Robin explains. "It's about higher customer satisfaction across the board."
Lean has, to date, solved tens of thousands of problems across TD Ameritrade's business by implementing a common set of tools and a common methodology for the organization. The lesson is: Lean can and should extend way beyond Shared Services to effect positive change.
At TD Ameritrade, Procurement is just in the process of implementing a "Lean Category Management" initiative, which will combine advanced category management techniques with Lean, and look at 'what drives cost?' – the value stream map.
