Are you harnessing social media for your operations?
Social media – love it or hate it, it’s not going away. So Lanco Infratech, encouraged by its Managing Director, is embracing all that is new and online to attract talented graduates and to access relevant operational data quickly. Both approaches are proving a winner.
Lanco Infratech is a large Indian conglomerate (energy/infrastructure) with a global footprint. Ajay Kumar Dhir manages the shared services for IT, IS, and Security, and is advancing Lanco’s online activities to embrace all that is new. But maintaining operational security while opening the "social networking" gates requires a careful balance.
Many of Lanco’s plants and factories are operating at the leading edge in terms of technical capability, and the company is proud to show them off through YouTube posts to capture the attention, and support the acquisition, of Gen Y and Gen Z talent. Taking mobile apps a step further, Lanco is also leveraging "data" through mobile technology: a new initiative is bringing information straight into the system from the point of capture at plants and construction sites.
The challenge for the 25-year-old company is how to consolidate the mass of information stored. Shared services has taken on the role of providing Knowledge as a Service – ie: converting all the information into accessible data, and providing state-of-the-art Knowledge Management for the operation. Today’s technology supports sharing that knowledge over a number of different mediums.
