Recorded at SSOW Manchester, Chris Gunning joins us and shares his nearly two decades-long background in shared services from initial discussions on standardization which led to discussions on globalization which has led to discussions on automation.
He remembers the early days when the discussions were around how to start to build shared services. The other big question was remaining captive vs. going with an outsourced provider. Chris notes that the industry has certainly grown but that the initial mindset remains. To that point, asked to give his old self advice, he suggests: “Don’t be afraid to explore boundaries- nothing is impossible.” And he realizes that he wouldn’t necessarily change a lot – he’s loved the journey, the people and the work.
