11:00 am - 11:45 am Build Value into the DNA of your Shared Services Organization to Be as Essential as Cost Savings

In the Middle East, cost isn’t necessarily king. Whilst cost savings is table stakes for most shared services organizations, the real name of the game for SSOs in the ME is value creation. In this session our expert will detail some easy wins that SSOs can take advantage of to enhance the overall performance and strategic objectives of the enterprise, generating tangible benefits that contribute to the organization's growth, efficiency, and competitive advantage. In this session, our expert will answer:

  • How do you make value creation a cornerstone of your SSO’s purpose and ensure all stakeholders are aligned with this vision and can execute?
  • How to effectively measure, recognize, and reward value delivery within the organization
  • What are strategies to ensure that the transformation is not just a one-time effort but a sustainable shift in organizational mindset

11:45 am - 12:30 pm KEYNOTE: GBS as a Catalyst for Enterprise AI Transformation

Peter Galik - Head of Innovation, Analytics and Automation, Takeda Pharmaceuticals

We’ve come a long way since rules-based automation, where bots were designed to reduce repetitive manual tasks. Today, AI is entering a new phase — one where AI agents can reason and act autonomously, mimicking human thought processes.

Just as Robotic Process Automation found fertile ground in shared services a decade ago, today’s Global Business Services (GBS) functions are once again in a prime position to lead the next wave of digital transformation. In this keynote, Peter Galik, Global Head of Innovation, Analytics, and Automation at Takeda Business Solutions, will explore:

  • The most promising AI technologies shaping the GBS landscape today
  • How to position your GBS or Shared Services function as an enterprise AI innovation hub
  • Key roadblocks to embedding AI into your operating model — and how to overcome them

2:40 pm - 3:10 pm Human Resources - An Essential Part of the Shared Services Ecosystem
Tamer Hassan - Vice President, People and Organization, Majid Al Futtaim Global Solutions LLC

As organizations in the Middle East embark on their shared services journeys, the initial focus often gravitates towards finance operations. Processes like P2P, O2C and R2R are the go-to for streamlining and process optimization. However, there is a compelling case for considering the expansion into HR shared services, where areas such as H2T, payroll and employee onboarding can also deliver to the business. This session will delve into the pivotal role of HR within the broader shared services framework, examining how integrating HR functions can enhance employee engagement and contribute to a more cohesive organizational strategy. This session will tackle:

  • How expanding into HR shared services will uncover low-hanging fruit to improve operational efficiency and allow HR to focus on strategic initiatives that drive business value
  • How to drive employee experience by providing consistent and accessible support, aligning more closely with organizational goals and responding more effectively to employee needs
  • The KPIs beyond cost and headcount that an HRSSO can prove value

3:15 pm - 3:45 pm Embed Process Improvement into the Foundation of your SSO to Bring Forth Long-Term Benefits
Joseph Atallah - Business Services Director, Azadea

Process improvement is part of the bedrock of a shared services organization (SSO). Disparate processes between offices and even internal departments means butting heads, battling priorities and no possibility for an end-to-end strategy. Long-term efficiencies and growth can only be gained by digging into each process, first finding the low-hanging fruit and then advancing to more complex improvement strategies. In this session, our panelists will instruct you how to:

  • Instill a culture of continuous improvement into your teams to make them want to push their own boundaries to improved processes
  • Identify quick wins to eliminate inefficiencies, to streamline workflows, reduce operational costs and allocate resources more effectively
  • Partner with vendors to optimize the right process at the right time

2:05 pm - 2:35 pm Global Process Ownership: The Bridge Between Strategy and Execution
Richard Ivey - Global Global Marketing and OTC Lead, British American Tobacco

Global Process Owners (GPOs) can be a cornerstone for driving effectiveness and efficiency within SSOs and GBSOs. GPOs help organizations streamline processes, improve strategic alignment, and enhance operational consistency, and they have the added benefit of being moveable – GPOs can sit within and without the organization, lone wolves or embedded with large teams. However, the success of the GPO model can be hindered by several inhibitors, including lack of authority, insufficient cross-functional collaboration, and inadequate change management practices. This session will explore how modern SSOs and GBSOs can overcome these challenges to optimize the GPO model effectively with strategies and solutions to:

  • Empower GPOs with the authority to make decisions, have access to resources and influence key stakeholders
  • Implement change management strategies to facilitate an open dialogue with your teams, keep employee engagement high and ensure smooth transitions to keep them on side.

2:40 pm - 3:10 pm Data: The Foundation of a Mature, AI-Ready Shared Services Organization

It is often said that you can’t have good technology without good data. As most SSOs are currently evaluating different AI technologies, many have one thing in common: Not focusing first on their data. This session will address the elephant in the room: Garbage in, garbage out. And who wants to justify garbage to the C-Suite? In this session:

  • Analyze how effective collaboration between IT and the SSO can enhance data management and analytics
  • Illustrate how a lack of data strategy will lead to workarounds and inefficiencies
  • Highlight the foundational role of Master Data Management (MDM) in creating a single source of truth
  • Focus on the teams involved in data ownership, which is critical to streamlined data strategy

3:15 pm - 3:45 pm Are GCCs the next GBS Evolution?

The Middle East is not only home to SSOs but also ITOs, BPO , and to the burgeoning new delivery center – the GCC. But is this really something that stands on its own, or is it simply the evolution of the Global Business Services (GBS) model? We talk about GBS, GCC, the Landlord Model, the Federated Model and even fully virtual centers. But what is the future?

This forward-thinking session will address where Global Business Services seems to be headed and how executives need to level up their knowledge of delivery models so they can be on the leading-edge when change is needed at their own organizations.

3:45 pm - 4:00 pm Afternoon Refreshment Break

4:00 pm - 4:45 pm PANEL: Unlock the Potential of the Region’s Diverse Talent Pool and Build a High Performing SSO

Taking advantage of local talent is always a challenge, but in the Middle East, it is a common perception that talent is exceptionally strong and diverse, with much to contribute, but difficult to harness. The need for innovative solutions and adaptability is critical, as businesses strive to meet the demands of an increasingly competitive market. In this session, our panelists will face these challenges head on and discuss how SSOs can use local talent to:

  • Enhance problem-solving by fostering diverse teams, as organizations can leverage a variety of perspectives that lead to more effective and innovative solutions
  • Improve customer insights as a diverse workforce possesses a deeper understanding of varied customer needs, enabling organizations to enhance customer satisfaction and tailor their services to improve engagement
  • Increase agility as a diverse employee group is more resilient, adapting more quickly to changing market conditions
