Q&A with Jackie Crockford, VP Global Business Services, AstraZeneca

In your opinion, what is the true measure of progressive GBS leadership, and why?

Thank you. So, I think this has been a great conference for addressing just that question. Progressive leadership for me is always around how can we contribute to our Enterprise Mission and purpose, and we've had a lot of discussions around purpose versus KPIs. How do we balance that? For me, how can we influence, how can we lead through what is always a very uncertain and volatile world that we live in and drive that, and to do that with authenticity, to do that with empathy is really how we can make an impact. Thank you.

What key area are you looking to invest in over the next 18 months, and why?

So, one of the key areas we're looking to invest in is particularly in the data, data management, and insight space. I think there's a huge need for us as we think about how technology is moving to be very careful with our data, to understand it, and to develop the skills and capabilities that can help us drive the insights that lead to the action that leads to the business outcomes that we're looking to get to. And I think GBS is beautifully positioned to take some leadership in this space.

What advice/words of wisdom would you give to someone who is just starting on their shared services and GBS journey?

Congratulations! I think you made an excellent choice in your career decisions, and my advice would be to stay curious. Right now, you'll probably have a lot of different questions about GBS, but keep that curiosity. That's what keeps us moving forward. And then, really importantly, just be you. Be authentic, be yourselves, and bring your best self to everything that you do.

What has been your favourite part of SSOW Europe 2023 so far?

I think there's been some excellent things. Always, it's the people, always. It's the opportunity to network, to reconnect with people, and to meet new people and hear new ideas. It's been a great time to reflect both about where we've come from and what we're facing today, but also where we're going to. And what is really encouraging and exciting is that we continue to put people at the centre of all we do. How do we help motivate people, drive our talent and the people agenda? And that's what really excites me.
