Q&A with Jonny Wilkinson, Inspirational Keynote Speaker, Rugby World Cup Legend

12/01/2023

You talked in your keynote session about vulnerability openness and the power of presence, how do you think leaders within shared services and GBS can apply these to running their organisations?

Thank you. I think the whole point for me is about exploring life and exploring each moment and having that, I guess, mindset about being willing to learn every day and being open to growing, rather than I think trying to use life as a way to get to an endpoint, to a destination. I think when people get treated like destinations, stopping points, you're almost kind of standing on them to get somewhere else. But I think journeys that you can go on together and explore and have that curiosity, I think teams and people feel that. I think you can build such team spirit. There's always this opportunity when people arrive fully present, open, but with their desires and ambitions and everything, and you bring them all together, you create something which is way bigger than the sum of the parts. And not just that, sometimes you create something that doesn't even belong to some of the parts, something that can change the world. But if we all turn up as we are, all trying to get our own thing, we end up with something we really have seen before. So, for me, that presence is about the curiosity, exploring every moment, and seeing what's really possible in relationships, in work, in creativity, in productivity, as well, and in health and well-being, I guess.
