Q&A with Maria Kirillova, Regional Director of Financial Operations, EMEA, Mars

12/01/2023

What is your greatest challenge within shared services and GBS, and why?

In general, GBS is at a very exciting state of maturity, making sure that it stops being a back office and moves to the front, becoming a powerhouse and energy driver for organizations. My company is at that stage, and I'm happy to see that many of us are in the same stage as well.

What key areas are you looking to invest in over the next 18 months, and why?

My key focus is process standardization. Within my company, we are different in many ways than we should be, and I'm looking forward to creating value from being different where it adds competitive advantage or creates extra value.

How do you see shared services and GBS evolving in the coming years?

I'm actually very excited about the next chapter of GBS. As I said, we are redefining ourselves and the purpose of all of us in this marketplace, and I can see a ton of energy behind the better use of technology. I see a lot of interesting ideas about reskilling and upskilling our employees and our colleagues, and I do believe that in a few years, GBS will be one of the most significant players in the finance industry. So, I'm really proud to be part of the movement.

What has been your favourite part of SSOW Europe 2023 so far?

By far, the networking. I love the breakout sessions, and especially the sessions which had themes, and you could bring individuals, the colleagues from complementing experiences. It was fascinating to see how different yet the same we face challenges and how much we can learn from one another.
