Ahead of the SSOW Europe 2022 event, we included 10 stats from the SSON Analytics Report 2022 on Global Business Services (GBS) maturity and scope expansion, to help you drive growth, profitability and value for your organisation. Respondents were asked to provide insights into their current operating model, whether they operate as a GBS, if they plan on expanding their scope of work next year and to what extent their Shared Services and Outsourcing (SSO) centres are integrating/expanding their scope into the front office.

More than 40% of respondents operate GBS, while a third operate multi-function shared services. Single-function shared services (22%) were the least popular among respondents, and the majority (more than three-quarters of respondents) provide services to multiple countries, while only a fifth service a single country.

GBS maturity:

1. 20% of respondents consider themselves a mature GBS (3% are moving towards digitised GBS, while 17% are scaling value-added services).
2. 20% of respondents are transitioning to a GBS model.
3. 27% of respondents plan to adopt a GBS model in the next 3-5 years.
4. 33% of respondents do not operate as a GBS and have no intention to implement it.

Scope expansion:

1. 73% of respondents are planning to expand their scope of work in 2022 (33% in terms of services, 7% in terms of geographic reach, 33% in terms of services and geographic reach).
2. Two-thirds of respondents are planning to expand their service offerings, while 40% are looking to further their geographic reach.
3. 26% of respondents are not planning on expanding their scope of work in 2022 (23% have no change planned, while 3% are reducing services and/or geographic reach).
4. Integrating shared services and front office expansion is a key focus for 27% of respondents.
5. 33% of respondents are still considering integrating shared services and front office expansion.
6. 40% of respondents said that integrating shared services and front office expansion was not on their agenda.
