Six Sigma has been the rage for a decade now, but Lean is fast becoming the new byword in quality and process efficiency. It’s about using less to give you more.

Transactional lean is an approach that can be applied to any business process—in this case, recruiting. Few organizations epitomize process excellence as much as General Electric. One of its divisions, GE Healthcare, started implementing a Lean methodology recruitment a few years ago. In doing so, HR leaders at GE Healthcare realized they could lift recruitment to new heights of efficiency, impacting the way the company recruited talent. As part of its Lean journey, GE Healthcare enlisted the support of recruitment service provider Kelly Outsourcing and Consulting Group [KellyOCG].
Lean Recruitment is backed up by a study conducted at Coventry University, where Lean principles applied to recruiting significantly improved outcomes. That particular project netted a 20% reduction in overall time to approve staff positions. More importantly, it helped HR identifying non-core, ancillary activities that occupy their time.
