The North American Shared Services & Outsourcing Week Announces the 2021 Impact Award Runner-Ups And Winners!  

The SSON Impact Awards is a globally recognized, annual industry awards ceremony, which honors and celebrates Shared Service Centers and service delivery teams who have exceeded industry standards in their Shared Services & Outsourcing initiatives.

This year’s Impact Awards runner-ups and winners were announced on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at the 25th Annual North American Shared Services & Outsourcing Week Digital Companion Event. Organizations recognized by SSON as a runner-up and winner and the judges’ comments are below


Diversity & Inclusion Impact Award

This award category is focused on identifying and celebrating business impact by creating a culture of inclusion across the full spectrum of diversity in shared services and global business services.

The Runner-Up: Zimmer Biomet

  • Gender balance at all levels is impressive 
  • Unconscious inclusion is spot on 

The Winner: Estee Lauder 

  • Strong measures for attrition which is low
  • Gender balance strong as well as strong gender balance in management 

Finance Impact Award

This award category is focused on the transformation, enabling technology, cost and capability improvements in Finance Business Services.

The Runner-Up: Mars 

  • Impressive upskilling efforts 
  • Excellent stakeholder communications led to outstanding change management 

The Winner: Sysco Business Services 

  • Technlogy changes provided very impressve ROI 
  • Paused program during pandemic and came back strong to meet goals, true example of resilience 

HR Impact Award 

This award category is focused on the transformation, cost and capability improvements in HR Services

The Runner-Up: Tata

  • Progressive use of AI and Data Analytics 
  • Adoption of analytcs by 95% HR and bsuiness leaders

The Winner: Takeda

  • Aligned methodology to patients 
  • Transformation efforts included: employee data, benefits, learning administration, payroll, compensation operations and HR global technology management  

Service Provider of the Year 

This award category celebrates the success of an individual provider that has improved an SSO’s efficiencies beyond the original scope, to become an invaluable partner to not only the SSO, but the greater business.

The Runner-Up: Capgemini 

  • Great improvement in growing thier clients program through saving 350 hours on automation initiatives 
  • Persevered in a remote work environment 

The Winner: Infosys

  • Solid return for the tax exemption process resulting in savings of $15M
  • Demonstrate a true partnership built on trust, hard work and shared goals 

Process Improvement and Value Creation Impact Award

This award category is focused on the strategy, improvement methodology and benefits/hard improvements in process improvement and value creation. 

The Runner-Up: Infosys BPM + AT&T

  • Strong focus on simplification, standardization and touch points
  • Using lean and six sigma, ten specific improvement tracks realized $3.07M in savings 

The Winner: JTI International SA

  • Implemented GBS to successfully drive efficiency, quality and growth 
  • Defined change management program with outstanding direct customer/stakeholder engagement 

Customer Centricity Impact Award 

As customer expectations and behaviors have caused seismic shifts across entire industries and business models, companies have enhanced their focus on customer experience through front, middle and back office processes. This award category is focused on the strategy, methodology, benefits, and hard improvements a shared services organization have made to improve the focus on the customer. 

The Runner-Up: Mars

  • Incorporated cross function team bringing the much needed diversity of thought
  • Proven agility forced by the pandemic but were able to adjust and succeed 

The Winner: Takeda 

  • The model created a one-stop shop for the business to engage with TBS, freeing up employees' time to focus on high value-added activities 
  • The business has a direct line into TBS, fostering trust and strengthening the working model. It's created innumerable benefits 

Creative Talent Management Impact Award

This award category is focused on the strategy, skill sets, improvement methodology, rise of digital talent, benefits, and hard improvements that a shared services organization have made to talent management.

The Runner-Up: Infosys + T-Mobile US, Inc. 

  • Strongest measurable business impact to end customer T-Mobile 
  • Compelling reduction in attrition and measured cost avoidance

The Winner: WNS

  • Compelling competency-based strategy tied to company's digital journey 
  • Very comprehensive framework and suite of offerings: ML/AI/Automation embedded 

Technology of the Year 

There are hundreds, if not thousands of technologies that SSOs can utilize to improve the outcomes they achieve for their customers. This award category is focused on singling out that technology that has improved an SSO’s efficiencies beyond the original scope, to become something that is invaluable to the organizations utilizing it.

The Runner-Up: Sysco Business Services 

  • Above average transaction processing success rate is 98.7%
  • Automation provided a jumpstart to the centralization of the remaining operating sites since they now use the same methodology and automation tool to process rebates

The Winner: Auditoria 

  • Ease of use with larger ERP apps edges out the competition 
  • Award winning AR Helpdesk based on natural language processing (NLP) sets this tech apart 

Change Management and Business Transformation Impact Award 

The Runner-Up: Advent Health 

  • Reinvented recruiting for healthcare during a pandemic 
  • Aided Lean Capital to its 60+ metrics to establish industry benchmarks, shared with 150 healthcare systems 

The Winner: JTI International SA

  • Impressive GBS implementation handling internally 
  • GBS surveys show very high customer engagement levels, no negative impact to attrition across the wider business because the GBS value proposition is resonating across the enterprise
