Procter & Gamble, Merck, among big winners at SSON Excellence Awards Asia 2012

In an astonishing feat of distinction, Procter & Gamble representatives went up the stage – thrice – to receive top honors while Merck’s top executive got overwhelming votes to bag a very special award at the recently concluded SSON Excellence Awards, shared services and outsourcing industry’s most prestigious awards ceremony in Asia. Everybody was in high spirits as the ‘largest gathering of shared services and outsourcing professionals in Asia’ pay homage to this year’s best. Held at the Max Atria Hall of the Singapore Expo Convention and Exhibition Centre on 5 September during the 15th Annual Asian Shared Services & Outsourcing Week, this year’s awardees are true inspiration in their respective fields. Below is a recap of the winners in each category: Excellence in Value Creation Winner: Infosys BPO watch the interview Runner-Up: Procter & Gamble Special Mention: SCG Accounting Excellence in Customer Service Winner: Royal Dutch Shell Runner-Up: Bank Mandiri Excellence in Improvement & Innovation Winner: Procter & Gamble watch the interview Runner-Up: Hewlett Packard Development Company Excellence in People and Communications Winner: Procter & Gamble watch the interview Runner-Up: Royal Dutch Shell Excellence in Culture Creation Winner: MSD (a trade name of Merck & Co., Inc.) watch the interview Runner-Up: Vital Shared Services Individual Contribution to Industry - Asia 2012 The final award that was handed out was the Individual Contribution to the Industry Award where the entire Shared Services & Outsourcing Network (SSON) community was given an opportunity to vote for the individual they believe deserves to be recognised for their influence over the entire industry, outside of their standard role. That award went to Sanjay Patel, Executive Director of Asia Pacific & Japan Shared Business Services at Merck. Watch the interview. Asked for his reaction about winning the award, Sanjay enthuses, "I really feel happy knowing that all the work that we put in everyday has its rewards at the end of the day. This award gives us more energy to work hard and continue to innovate and offer best practices that can help the industry." This year’s panel of judges include, Judges: Goh Kim Lee, Senior Director, SBS Finance Asia Pacific, Philips Electronics; GV Prasad, Executive Vice President - Insurance SBU, AXA Business Services; and Tony Breen, Director - Shared Business Services, PepsiCo. "The SSON Excellence Awards provides renewed confidence when you go back to your organizations as the recognition and acknowledgment come from one’s peers" quips PepsiCo’s Tony Breen via a video feed as he congratulates all the winners in front of the cheering delegates. The marvellous evening was capped with a trip down memory lane in a party filled with nostalgic music, fine banquet and an ever closer shared services and outsourcing community.
