The Best of the Best: The Asian Shared Services & Outsourcing Excellence Awards Winners

The genuine smiles of pride and the heart-felt gratitude expressed for their teams said it all – winning an SS&O Excellence Award is an honour earned through hard work, dedication and most importantly, teamwork. "This awards goes back to my team in Shenzhen. We have a great operation there and I want to thank the whole group – I wish you guys were here with me!" said Ang Kim Leng, General Manager, GBS, for Flextronics during an onsite interview, after winning the Excellence in Culture Creation Award. Lily Pan, Manager for Eaton’s International Shared Services Centre in North Asia, referred to the Runner Up Award in her hand and said, "This is for my team at Eaton for helping us win this award for Best Finance Transformation." Director & GM, Christophe M. Calligaro from Lexmark accepted the award for one of the most coveted titles, ‘Best Shared Services Team’, and attributed winning it to the hard work and dedication of his team in Cebu, Philippines. Their sentiment carried throughout the Awards Ceremony at the Annual Asian SS&O Week, which gathered over 430 attendees from China, India, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, and Laos, amongst other countries. Long-time North American Awards Judge Michael Garvey, VP & Director of Business Operations - Corporate Procurement at Leidos, hosted the event alongside Judges for the Asia region, who had spent weeks reviewing applications for each category. The 2014 Awards Judges for APAC are: Anil Bhavnani, Operations Director of Global Financial Solutions, Pfizer and 2014 Head Judge Goh Kim Lee, Senior Director SBS Finance Asia Pacific, Philips Electronics GV Prasad, CEO, AXA Business Services Ajay Dhir, Chairman, APAX CXO Forum Anil Bhavnani, the Head Judge for 2014, started the ceremony after a brief introduction by Michael: "It is my pleasure to be acting as Head Judge for the 17th Annual Shared Services and Outsourcing Excellence Awards. I have had the privilege of being involved in SSON’s events and community for a number of years and during my time I have seen the applications grow in both number and standard. In response industry changes we decided this year to revamp the awards categories to better reflect changes to the market and your industry. Therefore this year we will be awarding prizes for the following 7 categories: Best Shared Services Team Best Process innovation Best Technology Transformation Best Finance Transformation Excellence in Creating a Customer Centric Organization Most Successful Outsourced Partnership Excellence in Culture Creation." There were two companies that were honoured with 2 Awards during the ceremony: DHL was the winner of both Best Finance Transformation and Best Technology Transformation, whilst Maybank Group HR Shared Services won the Excellence in Creating a Customer Centric Organisation and was also the runner up for Best Technology Transformation. "It’s vindication that we’re on the right track and that we’re heading towards world-class," said DHL after accepting the awards. "Although we’re definitely not there yet, that’s where we want to get to as a company and definitely as a shared services centre." Team members globally took the opportunity to share their excitement as news spread, posting updates and kudos on Twitter.
