Judge Chris Gunning, Chris Gunning, VP Global Shared Services AMSSC comments: "Michel stands out amongst his peers in a number of ways. He was instrumental in changing the landscape of Shared Services and F&A BPO with the Phillips/Infosys transaction. He successfully chaired the European Council of Shared Services in the late 90s and early noughties. He is a true, passionate and inspiring leader, constantly looking for new ways to drive innovation. Not many can say they have done Shared Services successfully with four different large companies – and also worked for a BPO! From a personal perspective: Michel was one of the true inspirations for me, getting me excited about Shared Services and into the industry! As a young, fresh-faced Internal Auditor at Unisys in the late 1990s, I was actually on the other side of the fence auditing (aka torturing) Michel on internal controls and processes, and producing audit reports on the SSC organization and suggestions on what he could do better! I watched avidly, as Michel helped build, in Amsterdam, this exciting, dynamic, youthful SSC organization, staffed by motivated college graduates from all across Europe and all walks of life; and then also further afield. He instilled into them a spirit of enthusiasm, based on his own passion and motivation for making them successful. It was a trait that, I quickly learned, would be vital to a career in shared services! It was because I witnessed the birth of this organization from within the company, and the leadership I saw from Michel and his own boss, Tom McGlinn, the global VP Shared Services at the time, that gave me my real thirst for working in this ever-exciting, and fast changing, part of the industry. Although I never worked directly for Michel as a manager, I was lucky enough, half a decade later, to follow in his footsteps and run that very centre, having joined shared services in an accounting role several years previous! After the Unisys regional role, Michel went on to bigger and greater global roles around the world, in various other countries. But it was the time he spent at Unisys that connected with me. I still see Michel at various events around the world today, and am happy to see that he continues to inspire and deliver great results. I am sure others have also joined the industry as a result of his passion and leadership." 2011 Excellence Awards Judge Philip Whelan, Managing Director, Business Service Center, Europe, BP, shares these comments: "Michel stood out for many reasons, including the following: For helping to design and lead a large scale transformation from captive to OSP through divestment for value in a large global multi-national. For driving the optimisation and process standardisation agenda in a complex organisation with scale, fragmentation and a global footprint -- including "one platform" migration over time. For recognising people practices that built strong intellectual value by creating domain expertise within the captive and corresponding OSP/Hybrid model. "
