To do this, we would have to tap on the creativity of our people for creative solutions. We believe that for long term sustainability, for resilience, for stability, there must be a social compact between our employees and the organisation. This social compact cannot be just about wages for labour. For ourselves, we sought to develop an employee value proposition beyond this. The title of our employee value proposition is "Family@Work". It is our belief that we must never treat our people as economic digits in a transaction processing centre but as a family community at work." Clarence Ti, Chief Executive, Vital What impressed the Judges: What impressed the judges was the fact that the excellence in people and communications was a very visible process in Vital. There was a clear strategy to develop a team of employees that are happy and engaged. Hand in hand went the strategy of creating the right social capital in the organization; this addressed all the right elements with a clear employee value proposition, building a culture and themes around tribes, creating a family at the workplace, managing talent and a wide variety of communication programs. All these initiatives give you a sense that Vital has reached a very high level of engagement with its people. What added some complexity, and therefore interest, was that Vital has a diverse employee profile – the teams consist of both young as well as more mature staff. What was also interesting was the fact that Vital has to service and support a sector which is often not very visible in the SSO industry, ie government public agencies. With more than 100 government agencies to support and a final user/customer base of 80,000 employees, there is plenty of complexity to manage. The judges was particulary impressed by by Vital’s Chief Executive, Clarence Ti, during the phone interview, where his passion on this subject was made clear. Vital has not left any stone unturned in the process of developing solid people engagement and communications programs. The list of activities/programs in place to address people development, engagement, and communication is impressive. More to the point, these programs are showing visible success in terms of higher employee engagement index scores, high response rates, and lower attrition.
