For Meghan Trainor fans, it's All About That Bass...for SSON fans, it's All About Analytics... "Analytics" is all over the news this week. Business process solutions company EXL has just announced that it acquired analytics firm RPM Direct (for 74 million dollars) which will deliver specialized knowledge for the insurance industry, including property & casualty, life and health insurance. This reinforces the trend towards industry "verticalization" among outsource providers, which are all making efforts to shore up their industry-specific knowledge and expertise. (In October 2012, EXL had acquired US-based healthcare technology solutions provider Landacorp.) RPM specializes in analyzing large consumer data sets to segment populations, predict response rates, forecast customer lifetime value, design and execute targeted, multi-channel marketing campaigns. The company maintains its own database and supports data on over 250 million consumers and 120 million US households. EXL already has a team of over 1,500 data scientists. "RPM possesses a unique combination of strong analytic and data management capabilities with deep industry expertise in the P&C, life and health insurance markets. Clients value RPM’s acumen in combining its proprietary database with marketing analytics to optimize customer acquisition and retention while improving profitability," explains Rohit Kapoor, vice-chairman and CEO of EXL. EXL expects RPM’s database management and digital marketing capabilities to complement its own sophisticated analytic modeling and reporting offerings, to support end-to-end marketing analytic solutions. The acquisition of RPM will also boost the talent pool and scale of EXL Analytics and enhance its ability to develop analytic products and drive revenue growth. The deal is expected to close in June 2015. Elsewhere, OpenText, a leader in enterprise information management, is adding to its analytics capability to provide improved oversight of the supply chain for B2B transactions. It has just announced a new analytics capability for OpenText Trading Grid, a B2B integration network that powers supply chains. This will offer improved visibility into information flowing through supply chains to speed decision-making, respond quickly to customers’ changing demands and optimize business processes. One of the challenges for supply chain organizations is maturing their analytics capabilities to support digital business and reap a return on investment.
