Craig McKenney, Head of Citi Enterprise Supply Chain, talks about challenges and opportunities for the future

What sets Craig McKenney apart as a leader is not just his 22-year career in shared services and outsourcing but also his palpable passion for Citi’s brand and for what he does. But what impressed the judges at SSON most, perhaps, was his extraordinary vision of the future and the way in which he embraces digital disruption as a stepping-stone to higher value add.

"I tell my team all the time that in three to five years’ time they won’t recognize the way our shared services operates," he tells Barbara Hodge after having received the award for Practitioner of the Year, 2016, at Shared Services and Outsourcing Week in Orlando last month.

Over the last 18 months, Craig has led the complex integration of three legacy organizations – enterprise supply risk management, procurement and payables – into a new Enterprise Supply Chain group. This called for developing a strong team culture, helping transforming a key part of the organization, and embracing social media as a channel for interacting with clients, while also leveraging smart automation pilots – all at the same time.

"Everything happened at an amazing rate of change," he says. Today, with the focus oncontinuing to raising his team's game by migrating more complex and knowledge-based work into shared services, Craig is leveraging a strategy that incorporates culture, training, talent, and technology.

"The aim is to makesimpler and even more efficient experience," he explains.

SSON salutes his achievements!
