John Deere’s Finance Strategy for Emerging Markets

F&A functions today are overwhelmed by service delivery options. So, how is the world’s leading tractor company plowing its way into emerging markets?

John Deere considers the US and Western Europe fairly mature markets, from a finance perspective. Given its extensive investment in technology in those regions, outsourcing would result in limited advantage, says Jeffrey VanDeCasteele, Director of global Finance Shared Services for John Deere. In new markets like China, however, it's a different matter and it is there that Jeff hopes to leverage local providers for their expertise. This is especially important because the Chinese marketplace is growing rapidly, and what companies like John Deere need more than anything else is flexibility and scale.
